A new build in Perth: designing the smart home before the walls are closed

The cheapest time to make a home smart is before the plaster goes on. This owner in Perth sent us his plans while the house was still on paper. Two weeks later he had a design report, drawings on his own floor plans and a list for his electrician.

Why plan it now

Most of our work is in finished houses, where we work around what the builder left: no network point where the tablet should go, no cable run to the gate. All of that is cheap to put in before the walls close and expensive afterwards.

A Blueprint is that plan, done from the architect's drawings before the electrician starts. We did not need to see the site. There was nothing to see yet.

What he received

  • The design, system by system: hub, lighting, climate, security, doorbell and lock, network, energy and audio
  • Drawing sheets on his own floor plans, with every device pinned in place
  • Each room close up, everything ticked, so he could untick what he did not want
  • The automations, each explained in plain words
  • What he buys and what we supply, with prices as ranges
  • The full list for his electrician
  • Our assumptions, stated openly so he could correct them

What happens next

The house gets built with the right wiring in the walls. When it is nearly finished, Stage 2 is us carrying the design through: the hub, the sensors and modules, the automations and the dashboards, delivered remotely with his electrician doing the physical work.

The Blueprint is a fixed $500 and stands on its own. He can hand it to any electrician or integrator.

Questions about this project

What is a New Build Blueprint?

A fixed fee smart home design for a house that is being built or just finished. You send us the plans, we design every system room by room, draw it on your floor plans and give your electrician a list. It costs $500 and is delivered remotely anywhere in Australia.

When should I order it?

As early as you can, and before the electrician starts the rough-in. That is when wiring, cabling and network points are cheap to add and expensive to add later.

Do you need to visit the site?

No. The design is done from your architect's drawings and electrical plan. This home in Perth was designed from Melbourne with no visit.

Is the $500 credited toward the setup later?

No. The Blueprint is a separate piece of work and stands on its own. You can hand it to any electrician or integrator.
